July’s Service Projects for John Volken Academy Utah
One of the defining pillars of the John Volken Academy program is service to others. Recovery is about more than personal growth—it’s about rebuilding lives through purpose, responsibility, and giving back to the community.
Our students participate in volunteer projects every week throughout Utah, serving local nonprofit organizations that make a meaningful difference in the lives of others. These experiences help reinforce accountability, teamwork, gratitude, and the importance of helping those who need it most.
As of the end of June, Utah John Volken Academy students have contributed more than 1,100 volunteer hours to our community in 2026. June alone accounted for 162 hours of service, supporting organizations that address food insecurity, homelessness, domestic violence, and opportunities for children and families.
Supporting Safe Harbor
Our students volunteered with Safe Harbor Crisis Center helping improve and maintain their office property.
During one service day, students assisted with clearing out an apartment and transporting unwanted items for disposal. On the remaining volunteer days, students focused on beautifying the Safe Harbor office building by weeding, trimming landscaping, and performing general cleanup around the property.
Maintaining a welcoming environment helps organizations like Safe Harbor continue providing critical services for individuals and families experiencing domestic violence and other crises.
Helping Fight Hunger at Bountiful Food Pantry
Every Saturday in June, teams of four students volunteered at the Bountiful Food Pantry. Students assisted throughout the warehouse by:
- Sorting donated food
- Stocking pantry shelves
- Organizing grocery rescue deliveries
- Cleaning work areas
- Preparing food for community distribution
Food pantries depend heavily on volunteers, and we’re grateful for the opportunity to support an organization that provides essential resources to thousands of Utah families each year.
Supporting the Forever Young Foundation
Students also volunteered at the Forever Young Foundation during the HGGC Steve Young Mountain Classic at Promontory Golf Club in Park City.
The annual tournament raises funds for the Forever Young Foundation and Sophie’s Place, supporting therapeutic and educational programs for seriously ill and underprivileged children.
Our students assisted with event logistics and cleanup, helping ensure another successful fundraiser for these impactful organizations.

Service Is Part of Recovery
At John Volken Academy, volunteer service isn’t simply something students do—it’s a fundamental part of our process.
Serving others helps students develop:
- Responsibility
- Leadership
- Work ethic
- Compassion
- Confidence
- Connection to the community
By contributing to organizations that strengthen Utah communities, students discover the value of giving back while building the habits and character that support long-term recovery.
With more than 1,100 volunteer hours already completed in 2026, we’re proud of the commitment our students continue to show each week.
We look forward to creating an even greater impact throughout the rest of the year.
